Charging Lithium Batteries: Tips for Longevity

Lithium batteries need specialized charging to maximize their lifespan and capacity. Use chargers with a lithium LiFeP04 setting. These include AC Chargers, DC to DC Chargers, and Solar Controllers. Optimal charge voltage ranges from 14.2 to 14.6 Volts, with a Float setting of 13.5 to 13.6 Volts. For longer battery life, we recommend charging at the lower end of the voltage scale.

Make sure the charging current is about 30% of your battery’s capacity. This is best for charging. Avoid using chargers with a “Pulse Stage” or “Equalization Mode.” These can damage the battery and void the warranty.

Battery Usage Guidelines and Recommendations

• Do not connect lithium batteries to start batteries with a VSR (Voltage Sensitive Relay). This prevents potential issues with discharging and battery damage.

• Do not exceed the load rating of the Battery Management System (BMS) installed. This is crucial, even with batteries in parallel. It prevents overloading.

• Check battery status using “State of Charge” (SOC%). This gives accurate load disconnection. Avoid discharging below 20% SOC to extend battery life.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

• Batteries with a reset button should be kept charged. This prevents accidental activation of the low battery voltage disconnect.

• Follow procedures for resetting batteries without a reset button. This will ensure proper reconnection and avoid damage to electronic equipment.

• Use the wireless Smart Phone Monitoring system to track battery parameters. It sends alerts for voltage, temperature, current, and health.

Parallel Connection and Installation

• You can connect B-TEC batteries in parallel. But, use the right size cable and limit the batteries to four. This keeps the system stable.

• Charge batteries before connecting in parallel to prevent potential issues.
